About BorderGuessr
BorderGuessr is a geography puzzle about how countries connect. Find the shortest chain of shared land borders between two countries — a clever twist on the map quiz that rewards knowing the world’s neighbors.
How to play BorderGuessr
- You’re given a start country and a destination country.
- Name a country that shares a land border to build the path. The map includes a few maritime and enclave crossings (for example Spain–Morocco at Ceuta and Melilla, or Indonesia–Papua New Guinea–Australia).
- Each correct neighbor extends your route. If the destination borders your latest country, the final hop is added for you.
- Reach the destination in as few steps as possible.
- Scoring: 2,500 points, minus 200 per step over par and 100 per wrong guess (a wrong guess you later use as a real hop isn’t counted).
- Stuck in a dead end? Give up to reveal the shortest route (a daily give-up counts as played, score 0).
Tips & strategy
- Think in regions: cross a continent via the biggest, best-connected countries.
- Russia and China border a huge number of countries — handy hubs.
- Avoid dead ends like island nations with no land borders.
